Tasmania produced a dominant performance in tough wet-weather conditions to defeat Richmond by 63 points at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston on Saturday afternoon.

In persistent rain and strong winds, the Devils controlled the contest from start to finish, creating consistent forward pressure and holding Richmond to just three goals in an 11.19 (85) to 3.4 (22) victory in Round 12.

Tasmania started strongly, generating early forward entries and keeping Richmond under pressure despite difficult conditions. While the Devils were wasteful in front of goal, they controlled territory and created regular scoring opportunities. By quarter-time, Tasmania had built a 12-point lead, 2.7 (19) to 1.1 (7).

The second term saw Tasmania extend its dominance. The Devils continued to win possession around the contest and push the ball inside 50, adding four goals for the quarter while keeping Richmond scoreless. Despite ongoing inaccuracy, their sustained pressure ensured a commanding half-time lead of 6.13 (49) to 1.1 (7).

Richmond showed improved resistance after the main break, managing two goals in the third quarter and finding more opportunities going forward. However, Tasmania remained in control for most of the term, with their midfield and forward pressure maintaining the ascendancy. At three-quarter time, the Devils led 7.16 (58) to 3.3 (21).

Tasmania finished strongly in the final quarter, adding four more goals to close out the match. Their ability to persist despite earlier missed chances highlighted their control of the contest, and they limited Richmond to just one behind in the final term.

Across the match, Tasmania’s control was reflected in the statistics. The Devils recorded 393 disposals to Richmond’s 292 and dominated inside-50 entries, 63 to 37. Their ability to mark the ball in challenging conditions was also a key factor, finishing with 71 marks compared to Richmond’s 33, while they also led clearances 42 to 35.

While Richmond held an advantage in hit-outs and tackles, they were unable to convert that into sustained field position or scoring pressure. Tasmania’s work rate and ability to maintain territory under difficult conditions proved decisive.

Jye Menzie was outstanding for the Devils, finishing with 36 disposals, seven marks and a goal. Caleb Mitchell was also influential with 29 disposals and a major, while Zach Adams (26 disposals) and Brandon Leary (27 disposals) provided strong support around the contest. Geordie Payne contributed across the ground with 23 disposals and a goal.

In attack, Tasmania shared the scoring load, with Jed Hagan and Sam Siggins each kicking two goals, while Hugh Dixon, Jye Menzie, Caleb Mitchell, Geordie Payne, Jack Callinan, Kai Cameron and Nelson Beikoff Smart each added a goal.

For Richmond, scoring opportunities were limited, with Liam George, Joshua Pollocks and Zane Peucker each kicking a goal. Lachlan Street and Kaleb Smith were among the more productive players around the ground, while Samson Ryan provided a strong presence in the ruck.

The result highlighted Tasmania’s ability to adapt to challenging conditions and control the game through sustained effort and territory, even with inaccurate finishing.

With no injuries reported by either side, the Devils will look to build on this performance as their season continues. Tasmania now turns its attention to a Round 13 road clash against Sandringham on Sunday, 21st June 2026 at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval in Sandringham, with the match scheduled for 1:05pm.
