The Tasmania Devils will be in different parts of the country on Sunday as both teams prepare for crucial games.

In their final match of the VFL home-and-away season, the men will play GWS for the first time at Tom Wills Oval from 9:35am.

The women are in action against Geelong at Deakin University from 11:00am in a rematch of their round 9 clash earlier this season. 

It is the first time the Devils will play in Geelong, and Tasmania defender Matilda Elbourne is looking forward to another big turnout from the club’s interstate fans.

“In our last couple of matches in Victoria, we’ve had some big crowds and heaps of Tassie fans,” Elbourne said.

“I remember we were playing Port Melbourne earlier this year and one of the opposition girls said, ‘we've never played in front of a crowd this big’. I think most of the fans there were actually Tassie supporters.”

Elbourne was one of Tasmania’s best in last week’s 15-point loss to Carlton, finishing with 13 disposals, eight marks and six intercept possessions.

The former GWS Giants Academy product relocated from Sydney last year to join the Devils.

She has no regrets about her decision to move to Tasmania.

“The way I've been able to grow not only as a player down here, but off the field as well has been amazing,” Elbourne said.

“It’s just allowed me to really start enjoying my footy again, which I wasn’t back in Sydney.”

The Devils’ improved form in the latter half of the season has come despite a growing injury list.

The team has lost five players to season-ending ACL injuries, while Ellie Hall will not play again this year after fracturing her ankle last Saturday.

Elbourne said the whole squad has stood up in their absence.

“It makes your heart break; we really get around the players who are injured. They are the strongest girls I know,” she said.

“But you can flip it and look at the silver linings. More players are getting an opportunity to showcase themselves at this top level.

“The way those girls have come in, and even players trying new positions and finding out strengths they didn't realise they had, has been really good to see.”

Despite last week’s loss to the Blues, finals are still mathematically possible for the eighth-placed Devils.

They need to win their final three games of the season and have other results go their way though, starting with Sunday’s match against Geelong.

When the two sides met a month ago, Tasmania prevailed by 24 points at North Hobart Oval.

But Geelong has won its past two games to now sit in seventh on the ladder.

Elbourne said the Devils will need to be at their best against the Cats on Sunday.

“That game against Geelong was right when we were hitting form and starting to realise how well we can play when we connect as a team,” she said.

“I think we'll be just as tough against them this weekend. We love going interstate and it should be a really good match.”

Earlier in the morning, Tasmania’s VFL team will be in action over in Sydney.

The Devils secured a historic VFL finals berth with last week’s 12-point win against Werribee.

The victory was arguably the best in the team’s short history given it was against a top two side.

Where Tasmania will finish inside the top 10 is still to be determined though.

Currently in fifth on the ladder, the Devils can finish as high as third or as low as tenth depending on how Sunday’s game and other results across the weekend go.

A top six finish would ensure that Tasmania avoids the Wildcard Round and guarantee at least one home final.

Their opponent this week, the eighth-placed Giants, will present another challenge given they are only half a game and percentage behind the Devils on the ladder.

After three straight losses, GWS responded with a 13-point win over Gold Coast last week.

Tasmania mid-forward Brandon Leary is coming into the match in blistering form, after starring in last week’s win with a game-high 28 disposals, four tackles and two goals.

Hugh Dixon also provided a big presence up forward with his 21 disposals, seven marks, five tackles and two goals.

The Devils will need to make at least two forced changes.

Harry Brereton will miss the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder in last week’s match.

Ruck Cam Owen will also spend two to three weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a low-grade adductor strain.
