Tasmania returned to the winners list with a strong four-quarter performance, defeating the Casey Demons by 23 points at Casey Fields on Sunday afternoon.

Played in cool, cloudy conditions, the Devils controlled much of the contest through strong ball movement and forward-half pressure, recording a well-earned 7.8 (50) to 4.3 (27) victory.

Tasmania made a bright start despite Casey opening the scoring through Alice Robinson.

Ava Read quickly responded for the Devils before Georgia Nicholas and Read added further goals to give the visitors early momentum.

Tasmania’s pressure around the contest restricted Casey’s opportunities and helped establish a 3.2 (20) to 1.1 (7) lead at the first break.

The Demons worked their way back into the contest during the second quarter.

Goals to Rebecca Fitzpatrick and Zahri Burn narrowed the margin, while the Devils managed just one major through Ava Read.

Despite Casey’s improvement, Tasmania maintained control and took a 4.2 (26) to 3.1 (19) advantage into half-time.

The Devils again lifted after the main break.

Ava Read completed another outstanding performance with her fourth goal of the afternoon, while Heidi Preshaw added a major as Tasmania extended its lead.

Casey was limited to behinds during the term and struggled to convert opportunities, allowing the Devils to build a useful buffer heading into the final quarter, leading 6.5 (41) to 3.3 (21).

Casey threatened briefly early in the final term when Anna Vrsecky kicked a goal, but Tasmania responded well and controlled the remainder of the contest.

Alicia Gordon kicked an important goal midway through the quarter, while the Devils continued to generate field position and scoring opportunities.

Their ability to manage the game in the closing stages ensured a comfortable 23-point victory.

Tasmania’s superiority with the football was reflected in the statistics.

The Devils finished with 243 disposals to Casey’s 204, generated 34 inside-50 entries to 24 and narrowly won the clearance battle.

Their ability to control possession and transition the ball effectively proved a major factor in the result.

Ava Read was the standout performer up forward, kicking four goals and providing a constant target inside attacking 50.

Alicia Gordon and Heidi Preshaw each added a goal, while Georgia Nicholas also hit the scoreboard.

Angelica Clark produced another strong midfield performance with 24 disposals and eight clearances, while Perri King was influential around stoppages with 19 disposals, nine clearances and nine tackles.

Heidi Preshaw collected 20 disposals, and Alicia Gordon contributed 18 disposals alongside her goal.

Taia Lette battled strongly in the ruck with 28 hit-outs, while Jemma Blair’s 10 tackles highlighted Tasmania’s commitment to pressure around the contest.

For Casey, Tylah Burn was outstanding defensively with 17 tackles, while Meg Macdonald and Zoe Mitchell worked hard around stoppages.

Zahri Burn, Rebecca Fitzpatrick, Alice Robinson and Anna Vrsecky kicked the Demons’ goals.

The result highlighted Tasmania’s ability to control the game through possession and territory, with the Devils consistently applying pressure and capitalising on their opportunities in front of goal.

The Devils now turn their attention to the Western Bulldogs at Windsor Park in Launceston on Saturday, 29^th August 2026, with the match scheduled for 9:35am.

It will be the Devils’ final VFLW match of the 2026 season, and they will be aiming to finish their inaugural campaign on a high.
