The Tasmania Devils’ season will be on the line when they host the club’s first-ever home final.

The men’s team will take on Essendon in a historic VFL Semi-Final at North Hobart Oval on Saturday from 11:05am.

It will also be the first VFL Final played in Tasmania since 2005.

Devils forward Lachy Hay cannot wait to play in front of more than 10,000 loud and passionate fans.

“We've been so lucky to play in front of some big crowds, and the home fans have been awesome all year and shown up in numbers,” Hay said.

“It's a massive advantage; the boys get such a huge lift from it. It’s the reason why we play footy, to play in front of that many people.

“We sort of feel like we need to pay them (the fans) back for all of their support across the year, so hopefully we can get it done for them.”

The Devils got their first taste of finals footy in last week’s Qualifying Final against the Cats at GMHBA Stadium.

Hay said they learnt a lot from the 23-point loss to Geelong, which they will apply against Essendon this week.

“We took a lot of learnings from it. In finals footy, there’s obviously a lot more heat on the ball and definitely a lot more pressure,” he said.

“Just having that experience under our belt now, we're going into this week pretty excited and confident that our best footy beats anyone.”

Tasmania is going up against one of the league’s most in-form teams on Saturday.

Essendon secured its seventh consecutive win with a 45-point victory against Williamstown in last week’s Elimination Final.

The Bombers’ side featured 17 AFL-listed players, including former Devil Jaxon Artemis, who joined Essendon in late May with the first pick in the AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Hay said it would be a “pretty funny” feeling if he ends up playing on Artemis.

“Jacko and I became pretty close during his time over here,” he said.

“Throughout the pre-season and in match sim, we played on each other a few times.

“It'd be pretty funny if we line up on each other in front of a packed-out crowd on the weekend.”

Hay looked comfortable under finals pressure last week, with two goals against the Cats.

The 19-year-old made the big decision last year to relocate from Victoria to join the Devils.

It is a move that has helped Hay grow both as a person and a player.

“It's been such an amazing and surreal year. I never expected it to pan out the way it has to be honest,” Hay said.

“Going from life in a country town like Gisborne to Tassie, it's been a whirlwind, but one I'm extremely grateful for.

“Hopefully this year isn’t close to being done, because I've just had so much fun.”

Tasmania would advance to a Preliminary Final against Box Hill with a win on Saturday. A loss would end the Devils’ inaugural VFL campaign.

The game is being shown live on Channel 7, Kayo, AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.
