Robbie Fox has been named Tasmania’s inaugural VFL captain, leading a five-person leadership group ahead of the club’s historic 2026 campaign.

Fox will be supported by vice-captain Jye Menzie, with Brad Cox-Goodyer, Hugh Dixon and Caleb Mitchell rounding out the leadership group, bringing together a strong mix of experience, professionalism and emerging leadership to guide the Devils in their foundation season.

A proud product of Penguin, Fox returned home to Tasmania following a decorated nine-year AFL playing career with the Sydney Swans. The 32-year-old played 105 AFL games in the red and white, earning a reputation as one of the competition’s most reliable and team-first players, while also featuring in AFL Grand Final appearances in 2022 and 2024.

His experience at the elite level, combined with his strong connection to the state, made him a natural choice to lead the group into a new era for football in Tasmania.

Fox said he is incredibly honoured to lead the Devils in 2026.

“Being named captain of Tasmania is a huge honour and something I’m incredibly proud of,” Fox said.

“As a passionate Tasmanian, representing this state has always meant a lot to me, and to now lead the group in the state jumper is something I don’t take lightly.

“Growing up, I always wanted to make a strong impact for Tasmania, this opportunity gives me the chance to do that in a new way.

“I’m grateful the team have put their trust in me, I’m committed to leading through my actions, setting high standards, and helping create an environment where everyone can thrive.

“With a great vice-captain in Jye Menzie, who is an outstanding young leader, and with a strong mix of experienced players, youth, and talent from both Tasmania and interstate, there’s real belief in what we can achieve this year.”

The appointment marks another significant milestone for the Devils ahead of the historic season opener against Coburg on March 21 at North Hobart Oval.
