Tasmania will be without Libby Haines and Georgia Purton for the remainder of the season after scans confirmed both players have ruptured their anterior cruciate ligaments.

Haines suffered her injury late in Sunday’s win over Essendon, while Purton’s occurred during Penguin’s win over Wynard NWFL with scans on Monday confirming the club’s worst fears.

The pair join Meghan Gaffney, Jessie Williams and Brooke Tuszynski with the same injury.

Tasmania's VFLW coach, Georgia Walker, said the club was devastated for the pair and would support them throughout their rehabilitation.

“It’s devastating news for our group,” Walker said.

“They’re both incredibly high-quality players and high-quality people who we know will do all that they can to overcome this setback.

“They’ll both continue play to a pivotal role for us off the field for the remainder of the season.”  

VFL/W High Performance Manager Ross Brosnan has provided an update on several other key Devils ahead of ahead of Saturday’s clash with Carlton at North Hobart Oval.

Jemma Blair

Jemma sustained a high-grade ankle injury against Collingwood. She has commenced the early stages of her rehabilitation and is expected to miss 5–9 weeks.

Jessie Williams

Jessie sustained an ACL injury following a run-down tackle early in the match against Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium. The club will continue to support her holistically through the next stage of her rehabilitation.

Meghan Gaffney

Meghan sustained an ACL injury during our pre-season clash with Carlton and has since commenced her early management plan.

Brooke Tuszynski

Brooke sustained an ACL injury while playing at local level. The club will continue to support her holistically through the next stage of her rehabilitation.

Libby Haines

Libby unfortunately sustained an ACL injury during a contest in the fourth quarter of the weekend’s match. Scans have since confirmed the injury, and the club will continue to support her holistically through the next stage of her rehabilitation.

Georgia Purton

Georgia unfortunately sustained an ACL injury while playing at local level over the weekend. Scans have confirmed the injury, and the club will continue to support her holistically through the next stage of her rehabilitation.
