The early bird catches the Kangaroo isn’t the conventional phrase, but neither is playing a VFL game at 10am on a Saturday the conventional game time.

The Devils will embrace the early start as they return to North Hobart Oval for their round 11 clash with North Melbourne.

“I’m not sure what the weather’s going to be like but hopefully it’s sunny,” Devils’ defender Zach Adams said.

“I normally like a bit of a sleep in but we’ll have to adjust to that, just go for a coffee in the morning and get to the ground at about eight o’clock when I would normally still be in bed.”

Adams made a successful return from a knee injury in Sunday’s thrilling clash with Port Melbourne, kicking two goals in the four point loss to The Borough.

“It was just good to get back out there and amongst it and make it through the game unscathed,” he said.

“I was pretty happy with that and to hit the scoreboard – Jezz [coach Jeromey Webberley] gives me a bit of a licence to push hard forward and take a few marks and it paid off on the weekend.”

The match against the Kangaroos on Saturday will be the second time this season the Devils have faced a side with AFL listed players.

A VFL home-and-away record crowd of over 14-thousand at Ninja Stadium saw Carlton prevail over the locals by 25-points in round five.

“They are obviously very good [AFL listed] players,” Adams said.

“We've just got to try our best to lock them down, but at the same time I don’t think it worries us as much as people think.”

Saturday’s match at North Hobart is a part of another double-header with the women to also play the Kangaroos in the later time slot of 1:35pm.

Despite being highly competitive, even dominant for periods, the VFLW side is still searching for its maiden win after losses to Casey and Port Melbourne.

Devils’ forward Grace White kicked two goals against The Borough on Sunday and can see positive signs for the team.

“We had really good patches [against Port Melbourne] and this weekend we are hoping to put them all together and play that throughout the whole game,” she said.

“We have shown some really promising signs and are definitely connecting a bit more coming into the forward line and able to get a bit more score on the board.”

White is one of the few Devils’ players with VFLW experience having played two games for the Kangaroos in 2023.

She feels Tasmania’s first win is on the horizon.

“A lot of us haven’t played at that level before so actually executing our skills with more pressure and being able to do that consistently will be a key going forward,” she said.

“I think it will be pretty special [to win] and I think that’s what we are all aiming for at this point in time and I think it will come very soon.”

Both of Saturday’s matches will be broadcast live in Tasmania on Channel Seven. Interstate fans can watch via 7Plus, while SEN Tassie will also be broadcasting the action on radio.
