Tasmania faced a strong North Melbourne Werribee outfit in Round 4, with the visitors producing a dominant performance to secure a 70-point win at North Hobart Oval on Saturday afternoon.
In fine conditions with mild temperatures and light winds, North Melbourne controlled the contest from the outset and maintained momentum throughout, running out 15.11 (101) to 5.1 (31) winners.
North Melbourne made an immediate impact in the opening term, applying early scoreboard pressure through Brooke Sheridan, who booted multiple goals to set the tone.
Madeleine Di Cosmo and Poppy Ella Schaap also found the scoreboard as the visitors built a strong early lead.
Tasmania’s only major of the quarter came through Georgia Nicholas, but the Devils trailed by 26 points at quarter time, 5.3 (33) to 1.1 (7).
The momentum continued in the second quarter, with North Melbourne extending its advantage through Sheridan, who added further goals to her tally, while Gabby Collingwood and Renee Tierney also contributed.
Despite a response from Emilie Saward, Tasmania struggled to generate consistent forward entries, as the visitors pushed out to a commanding 51-point lead at the main break, 10.4 (64) to 2.1 (13).
Tasmania showed improved resistance after half-time, lifting its intensity around the contest and beginning to generate more forward pressure.
Grace White and Georgia Nicholas both hit the scoreboard to reduce the margin slightly, but North Melbourne continued to respond, with Sheridan and Tierney adding further goals.
The margin remained substantial at the final change, with North leading 12.8 (80) to 4.1 (25).
The final quarter followed a similar pattern, with moments of promise from Tasmania early as Ava Read converted, but North Melbourne’s continued pressure and efficiency ensured the result was beyond doubt.
Goals to Tierney, Tahlia Meier and Shelby Knoll highlighted another productive quarter for the visitors, as they finished strongly to seal the 70-point victory.
Across the match, North Melbourne’s dominance in disposals, marks and inside-50 entries proved decisive.
The visitors recorded 227 disposals to Tasmania’s 160 and generated 35 inside-50s, while also taking a commanding 65 marks.
Their strong hit-out advantage further contributed to control around the ground, allowing them to consistently apply pressure in attacking areas.
Despite the result, Tasmania had patches of competitiveness, particularly through their work around stoppages where they narrowly led clearances.
Georgia Nicholas was a bright point in attack with two goals, while Ava Read and Emilie Saward also contributed majors.
In defence and through the midfield, Angelica Clark and Perri King worked hard under pressure, while Joherty Revell contributed in the ruck and around stoppages.
Ellie Hall also showed resilience across the contest in a challenging team performance.
For North Melbourne, Brooke Sheridan delivered a standout performance with seven goals, leading a potent forward line.
Renee Tierney added three goals in support, while Madeleine Di Cosmo and Poppy Ella Schaap also contributed on the scoreboard.
Through the midfield, Ava Seton and Di Cosmo helped drive the visitors’ ball movement, while Lauren Jatczak was influential at stoppages with a strong hit-out presence.
Injury concerns for North Melbourne emerged with Shelby Knoll leaving the field with a knee issue, with further assessment to determine the extent of the injury.
Tasmania reported no injuries from the match.
Tasmania will now turn its attention to continuing development across its inaugural campaign, taking valuable lessons from another challenging contest.
The Devils now shift their focus to a Round 5 clash against Darebin at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston on Saturday, 13th June 2026, with the match scheduled for 3:35pm.
