We're calling on musicians, songwriters and storytellers to help create a song that will belong to an entire island, with submissions now open.
A club song is sung by all, no matter their age, background or location. It’s sung at the shack, in the pub and on road trips along the Midlands Highway. Belted out in the changerooms and echoed around footy grounds.
Now, we're asking the public to help write ours.
Submissions are open to amateur and professional musicians anywhere in the world, with entries closing on Wednesday 25 November 2026.
We're looking for something unmistakably ours. A song filled with heart, pride and a bit of Tassie spirit. One that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and gives an entire island a reason to sing together.
Devils CEO Brendon Gale, who is also part of the Devils Club Song Committee, is pleased to open the submission process.
“A club song is one of the first things a supporter learns, and this song will belong to Tasmania,” Gale said.
“When we run out for our first AFL and AFLW games in 2028, we want this song to echo through every town and be sung by all Devils fans, loud and proud.
“It must feel like us, so we’re opening the door to anyone who wants to help us find it.
“Imagine our players belting it out after a famous win, with the crowd singing it back.
“We can’t wait to hear what you come up with.”
How submissions will be judged:
All submissions will be assessed against five equally weighted criteria:
-
Singability — 20%: Easy to learn, remember and sing together.
-
Emotional Connection — 20%: Creates pride, passion and a sense of belonging.
-
Reflecting Tasmania & The Club — 20%: Authentically captures our character, identity, stories and spirit.
-
Originality — 20%: Distinctive, memorable and avoids feeling like a generic club song.
-
First Impression — 20%: Makes an immediate impact and leaves you wanting to hear and sing it again.
Entries must be original works, and the club has asked musicians not to use generative AI tools in creating their submissions.
There has already been strong early interest from well-known Australian artists, with more entries expected throughout the submission period.
Entries from established musicians or artists will move directly into the second round of the process, while community submissions will be assessed by members of the Devils Club Song Committee over the coming months.
The winning entry will be revealed to the public in mid-2027.
Have you got the words to unite an island? The melody to make our voices heard?
Submissions are open from Wednesday 28 October until Wednesday 25 November 2026 via this link.
