Lachy Hay’s remarkable rise from country football to the VFL will continue, with the talented teenager recommitting to the Devils for 2027.

The 19-year-old featured in all 20 of the Devils’ matches in 2026, averaging 15.8 disposals and 2.5 tackles while registering 19 goals in his debut VFL season.

His speed and ability to impact across the wing and half-forward quickly came to the fore, highlighted by a four-goal performance in Tasmania’s 78-point Good Friday win over Frankston.

Hay continued to make his mark at the business end of the season, kicking two goals in each of the Devils’ two finals appearances against Geelong and Essendon.

His contribution extended beyond the field, receiving the inaugural Honour the Map, Inspire the Future Award at the club’s presentation night.

The award recognises the player who best embraced and embodied what it means to be a Tasmanian Devil off the field.

Originally from Gisborne, Hay made his senior debut for Macedon at just 15, building 32 senior appearances before joining Riddell for the 2025 season.

He played 19 senior games and kicked 23 goals for the Bombers, helping secure a premiership against his former club and winning the Alan Retallick Medal as Riddell’s best and fairest.

His performance in the grand final caught the attention of Tasmania’s Head of List Management and Strategy, Todd Patterson, opening the door to an opportunity on the Devils’ inaugural VFL list.

Hay seized that chance, earning selection for Tasmania’s historic opening-round victory at North Hobart Oval in front of more than 10,000 supporters.

Also, a talented cricketer who spent time in Cricket Victoria’s elite talent pathway, Hay will now continue his football development in Tasmania as the Devils build towards their second VFL season.

Hay’s signature caps off a busy week for the Devils, with former AFL-listed pair Jack Williams and George Stevens joining the club, alongside the re-signings of Jye Menzie and Jed Hagan.
