Harry Brereton will miss the remainder of the 2026 VFL season after dislocating his shoulder in Saturday’s win over Werribee at North Hobart Oval.

The injury comes as a devastating setback for Brereton, with the 20-year-old having only recently returned from a separate shoulder injury sustained during the pre-season.

A proud product of the Tasmania Devils pathway, Brereton managed three games for the Devils this season, including a three-goal haul in the win over the Sydney Swans earlier this month.

VFL/W High-Performance Manager Ross Brosnan has also provided an update on Cameron Owen and Nelson Beikoff-Smart ahead of Sunday’s clash with GWS at Tom Wills Oval. 

Caleb Mitchell

Caleb sustained an ankle injury after his ankle became trapped underneath another player during the third quarter of our clash against the Gold Coast. He is progressing through his rehabilitation running and is expected to return in 1–2 weeks.

Cam Owen

Cam sustained a low-grade adductor strain following an impact in a ruck contest during the first quarter against Werribee on the weekend. He will miss our clash against GWS and is expected to return in 2–3 weeks.

Sam Siggins

Sam sustained a hamstring injury at local level. He is progressing through the early stages of his management plan, with his return timeline 4–6 weeks.

Nelson Beikoff-Smart

Nelson sustained a hamstring injury during training last week. He is progressing through the early stages of his management plan, with his return timeline 4–6 weeks.

Tyler McGinniss

Tyler sustained a plantar plate tear at local level and has since undergone surgery. He has now come out of the boot, continues to progress his lower-body conditioning and strength, and has commenced his return-to-run program. His return is 6–8 weeks.  

Max Roney

Max sustained a quad tendon injury during the warm-up ahead of the Gold Coast match while kicking a ball. He has recommenced his rehabilitation program and is expected to miss 6–10 weeks.

Harry Brereton

Harry unfortunately sustained a shoulder dislocation after impacting the ground following a spoil in the first quarter on the weekend. The club is in the early stages of establishing his holistic management plan, including surgical planning. He will miss the remainder of the season.
