Axel won’t be the only Walsh representing Tasmania in 2027, with older brother and former Port Adelaide tall Xavier signing a one-year deal with the Devils.
The East Perth product joins Tasmania after three seasons at Alberton, where he kicked 28 goals across 36 games in the SANFL.
Walsh enjoyed his most productive season in attack this year, registering 23 goals from 16 appearances playing predominantly as a forward.
Selected by Port Adelaide with pick 13 in the 2023 AFL Rookie Draft, Walsh arrived at the Power having represented Western Australia at both under-16 and under-18 level.
A powerful and versatile tall, Walsh brings a strong aerial presence, contested marking ability and a willingness to attack the ball and create contests.
While he was unable to break into Port Adelaide’s AFL side, Walsh brings three years of experience in an elite football environment to the Devils.
His move to Tasmania reunites him with Devils Head Coach Ken Hinkley, who coached him during his time at Port Adelaide.
It also sees him join younger brother and under-17 star Axel, who was unveiled among the Devils’ inaugural player signings in September.
Walsh adds another developing tall to Tasmania’s growing playing group ahead of its first season in 2027, becoming the third former AFL-listed player to join the club in quick succession after former Eagle Jack Williams and former Cat George Stevens were unveiled last week.
