Brandon Leary will continue to fly in Tasmanian colours, re-signing with the Devils for 2027.
The exciting 23-year-old enjoyed a standout inaugural campaign, playing 19 games and finishing third in the club’s Best and Fairest award.
Known for his high-flying ability and instinct around goal, Leary quickly established himself as one of the competition’s most exciting players, giving Devils fans plenty of reasons to get out of their seats throughout his first full VFL campaign.
His impressive season also earned him an opportunity on football’s biggest stage, representing the Devils in the Telstra Half-Time Sprint at the AFL Grand Final.
Leary lined up against players from across the AFL, including reigning champion Jed Walter, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Jarman Impey and Aliir Aliir.
Leary’s recent rise is one of persistence.
Despite a strong campaign with Tasmania’s under-18 side, Leary was overlooked in the 2022 AFL Draft before trialling with Hawthorn during the 2023 pre-season supplemental selection period.
After missing out on a contract, he returned home and starred for North Launceston, kicking 58 goals in 15 TSL games in 2025 before joining the Devils’ inaugural VFL squad.
Leary made the most of that opportunity, polling 233 votes in Tasmania’s Best and Fairest count to finish just one vote behind runner-up Nick Williams and eight behind winner Hugh Dixon.
His recommitment adds further excitement to the Devils’ preparations for 2027, joining returning teammates Jye Menzie and Jed Hagan alongside new recruits George Stevens, Jack Williams and Xavier Walsh.
