Tasmania’s inaugural VFLW leading goalkicker Ava Read has recommitted to the Devils for 2027.

The 20-year-old will return for Tasmania’s second VFLW campaign after an excellent individual season, featuring in all 14 matches and leading the Devils’ goalkicking with 21 goals.

Read provided a consistent presence in Georgia Walker’s attack, averaging 11.4 disposals, 3.4 score involvements and 1.5 goals per game throughout the Devils’ inaugural campaign.

Her performances also earned her selection in the VFLW Team of the Year squad.

Read’s influence was further reflected in Tasmania’s inaugural best and fairest count, where she finished third with 183 votes.

She ended the night just nine votes behind winner Angelica Clark, who claimed the historic honour with 192 votes, while Perri King finished runner-up on 187.

Having established herself as an important part of Tasmania’s forward line, Read’s return gives the Devils a proven avenue to goal as they look to build on their first season.

Her re-signing follows the commitments of Clark and Grace White as senior coach Georgia Walker continues to shape her squad for 2027.
